Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the response. Knott County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us is retained so the team can respond. We keep the message inside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical information about that visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The referring website, when one is available
Cookies and Analytics
The site uses cookies, which are small files saved on a visitor's device. They help show which pages receive traffic and where visits end. No Criminal-Record Data on File
Knott County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records held by the Knott County Sheriff, the Kentucky courts, the Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. The website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that company's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each partner controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Knott County Sheriff, Kentucky court resources, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, or outside search providers. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's own privacy terms apply. Read them before providing personal information.
Some advertising providers may follow activity across websites to select targeted advertising. That processing occurs on the provider's systems, not ours.

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to these limited recipients:

Rights may vary under the law that applies where a visitor lives. Kentucky's Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs access to records held by Kentucky public agencies. It is not a broad privacy law for this private website. Under this policy, a visitor may:
