Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected when someone visits Knott County Criminal History, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which it may be shared. By continuing to use the website, a visitor accepts these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies the response. Knott County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email sent to us is retained so the team can respond. We keep the message inside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical information about that visit:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Pages viewed and the time spent on them
  • The referring website, when one is available

Cookies and Analytics

The site uses cookies, which are small files saved on a visitor's device. They help show which pages receive traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers combine that usage information into reports. A browser can be set to refuse cookies, although doing so may cause parts of the website to work differently.

What We Do With This Data

  • Sending search requests to the selected partner service
  • Maintaining website availability and load speed
  • Finding and correcting technical problems
  • Learning which resources visitors use and which need improvement
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Knott County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records held by the Knott County Sheriff, the Kentucky courts, the Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and the Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. The website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted through one of those tools is governed by that company's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each partner controls its own retention and disclosure practices. Review those terms before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Knott County Sheriff, Kentucky court resources, state agencies, legal-aid organizations, or outside search providers. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's own privacy terms apply. Read them before providing personal information.

Some advertising providers may follow activity across websites to select targeted advertising. That processing occurs on the provider's systems, not ours.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may still be available to these limited recipients:

  • Analytics providers that measure visits and performance
  • Search partners that process a visitor's query
  • Advertising networks that serve ads on the website
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

Standard security measures are used to guard collected data. No internet system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it promptly.

Your Data Rights

Rights may vary under the law that applies where a visitor lives. Kentucky's Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs access to records held by Kentucky public agencies. It is not a broad privacy law for this private website. Under this policy, a visitor may:

  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Ask what personal information we hold about them
  • Object to certain forms of processing
  • Ask us to delete their information

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised. A new version becomes available here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.

Effective date: July 26, 2026
